Macintosh System 7.0b4

Folder Contents:

A beta developer-release CD named "SuperBeta" as an ISO image file, "SuperBeta.iso".

It contains installers for System 7.0b4, a final beta candidate nearing the close of the System 7.0 development series, code named "Big Bang".

This CD iso may be mounted in a Mini vMac emulator for installation. Or in an actual suitable Mac computer, either as a mounted iso image or burned to a CD blank.

On board the mounted iso are installers in both 800K and 1.4MB "Disk Copy 4" floppy disk image format, plus an installer version for direct install from the mounted CD iso, or CD, if the iso is burned to a CD blank.

The bootable floppy images have also been included separately, converted to DiskDup+ format and located in the folders named "800K DiskDup Images" and "FDHD DiskDup Images". They've been included here as an alternative method of installing this OS in Mini vMac. The 1.4MB disk images in the "FDHD DiskDup Images" folder, being the easiest to install from.

Drag "Install 1.dsk" image onto a Mini vMac icon, to start up from it, then drag the hard drive image you wish to install to, into the now open Mini vMac window.

Under a running development Mac OS, various build version numbers are often differentiated by a replacement of the standard Macintosh menu title "Special" with a unique word beginning with the letter "S" - for example; "Stereophonic" instead of "Special".

System 7.0b4's "Special" menu is named "SuperBeta".

Also on-board are full install sets of HyperCard versions 1.2.5 and 2.0v2 (Magic Edition). Some of the on-board documentation requires HyperCard 2.0 or newer, to view.

If extracting this achive on a classic Mac System, use MacZip for optimal results.

Before mounting any of these images, the iso or floppies, ensure that their locked status is set. This is to ensure their contents will remain unmodified since their creation date.
